The organisation - The Division of Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine (BioMMED) at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in Baton Rogue, Louisiana is engaged in innovative research to determine the molecular basis of various diseases as well as to develop novel therapeutics for the treatment of cancer and infectious diseases. In addition to maintaining a multidisciplinary research, support and development unit providing centralised access to state-of-the-art equipment and advanced training in molecular and cell biology, BioMMED oversees two National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded research cores: The Center for Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE)-funded Molecular ImmunoPathology Core (MIPC) and the IDeA Network for Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE)-funded Molecular and Cell Biology Core (MCBC).

Dr Konstantin G. Kousoulas is the Director of BioMMED, with expertise is molecular and cellular biology, the structure and function of glycoproteins, membrane fusion, viral targeting to cellular receptors and characteriation of ligand-cellular surface receptor interaction. He is particularly interested in using liposomes and other vehicles for drug delivery purposes and the exploitation of Toll receptors for targeting purposes.
